Day 5 - 11 Feb 2009 Wednesday

So fast its Day 5 already.

In the morning we went to National Palace Museum (NPM).

Directions: Take a train to Jiantan MRT, and then transfer bus to the NPM. I can't remember the bus number, but there will be plenty signs to guide you dun worry.

One thing good about taipei buses is that they will display their itinerary on the bus stop poles so you know which bus goes where.

Tip: when boarding buses, take note of a sign in the bus which will tell you to pay when boarding or pay when alighting. Just pay with your EasyCard.

NPM...

Wait for bus here to go to NPM

Tip: There's 50% discount on the admission tickets if you sign up for the Youth Travel Pass at the airport.

There's no photo taking allowed in the museum, so we went out to take some shots

Some shots of National Palace Museum exterior

Our next destination is back to Ximending area for Modern toilet lunch!

On the way back we chanced upon Yong He Dou Jiang Da Wang! The Dou Jiang which we had been searching for since Day 1. So we went ahead and tried some.

Yong He Dou Jiang Da Wang!

Dou Jiang served in a bowl. They used raw sugar instead of sugar syrup

So on we go to Ximending and Modern Toilet..

Directions: If you follow the WLMJ thats available in the forums, you might get confused like me. The directions are largely correct but let me make it clearer. As you walk towards Rainbow hotel from XMD MRT, look out for California Fitness. When you see it walk towards it and there's an alley. Walk through the alley where there's many tattoo shops and cross a road. There will be a multi storey carpark and you have reached the right place. For info, the carpark is called Emei Carpark.

Lunch at Modern toilet is not bad and much cheaper compared to PS Bu Bu. The ice servings are huge! It turns our more like a photo shooting session rather than lunch.. haha

There is the famous Mordern Toilet

Morden Toilet

Nice Toilet bowl

Sit on Toilet bowls

Eat on a bath tub!

The Menu

Soup (Forgot what soup it is)

Cheese baked rice

Pork cutlet rice served in a toilet bowl!

Urinal Drink!

Pile of Shit

What a big pile of SHIT~!!

Melted down shit

After the very filling lunch, we went to take a walk at the Zhongxiao area.

First we visited Guang Hua Digital Mall, the equivalent of Sim Lim Square. Take MRT to Zhongxiao Xinsheng.

At Guang Hua..

Then we went to visit SOGO. Wow, there can be three SOGOs within a few metres of each other, just like there's so many Xin Guang San Yue everywhere. Guess taiwan people really like those Taka-styled departmental stores.

Finally, we ended back at Taipei underground mall, as the stuff there are more suited to us.

Dinnertime, we went back to Shilin to try more foods.

Some shot of Shilin

Busy Shilin...

Hao Da (Hot Star). Constant queues, so the attendant will give u the plastic bag to put the Ji Pai in first before you get the Ji Pai...

Hao Da Da Ji Pai again, this time the original one from Shilin!

Yi Lan Chong Bing

A very big piece. You would like it very much if you are onions lover. Loads and loads of onions inside as well as loads of pepper giving it a very pepperish and hot taste.

Da Bing Bao Xiao Bing. Is some form of crispy pastry wrapped in popiah skin and hammered until it breaks. Then add the flavour of your choice. It is quite nice actually!

Ai Yu Bing. Just like Ice Jelly in SG...

Qi Li Xiang Chicken Backside made famous by Jay Chou song!

Smelly Tou Fu

And thats the end of Day 5!
